I absolutely love this story and it is a great example of how children can be active participants in storytelling. Sometimes parents and practitioners may think that a child is not interested in stories as given the choice they may not choose to sit down with a book. However, storytelling of this nature will appeal to the active learners and is a great way to encourage a love of stories without children feeling pressured to sit down and read, an activity which they just may not be ready for or interested in.

Thank you for your comment Katie. I agree with you 100%. I think most people assume story telling is all about sitting and listening, when in actual fact you can make it more enjoyable by acting out the story. Also, it will help them remember the story, as from experience, adding in actions or role play is beneficial to children's learning and development.

Story telling is becoming a lost art as busy parents immerse their children in ICT based entertainment. If parents and practitioners can engage children in stories in the outdoor environment (where we know most children love to spend their time) children can become active participants in stories. In this way they will develop a love of known stories as well as developing the confidence and skills to create their own.

I agree JCB. Unfortunately, children and families are becoming more reliant on technology and this is impacting their play and limiting their imagination and creativity (Rowan, 2013). A critical factor for children's development is to be exposed to nature (Rowan, 2013) which is why something like story telling is beneficial, as it can be done within a natural environment, where there is no technology or plastic, just their natural surroundings to help their development.
